Pre-Reading/Vocab

KWL Sheets - a pre-reading strategy that engages students in their reading. Students list what they know (K) about the subject and what they want to learn (W) about it before they read. Then they read and list what they learned (L) from reading. This example is from notablebiographies.com biography of Emily Dickinson For the first three Reading Standards and the second Listening/Speaking/Viewing standard, students must interpret and form judgments on information. To do this they first need a basic comprehension.
